There's been a controversial end to the first National Basketball League semi final in Nelson with the Giants last second 83-82 win, prompting a protest from the Wellington Saints.
With 1.7 seconds to play the home side trailed by three and John Barber was fouled attempting a three pointer which would have tied the game up at 82-82
He hit his first two free throws but missed the third and the Saints couldn't grab the re-bound.
But Tony Rampton could and he put the ball in the basket from close range for the two point match winner.
Saints protested, claiming time was up, but accepted it wasn't after watching a replay.
Nelson now head into next week's the best-of-three finals series against either the champions Waikato or Christchurch.
The Pistons play the Cougars in Te Awamutu tonight.
