Openside flanker Schalk Burger returns to the Springbok rugby team to play the British and Irish Lions in the second test in Pretoria this weekend.

Burger, a former world player of the year, missed the Springboks' 26-21 first test victory last Saturday with a calf injury.

He replaces Heinrich Brussow in the only change to the starting lineup announced by coach Peter de Villiers.

Brussow, who came to the fore with his ball-stealing abilities on the ground in the Free State Cheetahs' tour match against the Lions, is named among the substitutes.

Reserve scrumhalf Enrico Januarie has been dropped and hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle comes on to the bench in place of loosehead prop Gurthro Steenkamp. Flyhalf Ruan Pienaar, who has also played at fullback and on the wing for South Africa, will cover the scrumhalf position.

South Africa - 15-Francois Steyn, 14-JP Pietersen, 13-Adrian Jacobs, 12-Jean de Villiers, 11-Bryan Habana, 10-Ruan Pienaar, 9-Fourie du Preez, 8-Pierre Spies, 7-Juan Smith, 6-Schalk Burger, 5-Victor Matfield, 4-Bakkies Botha, 3-John Smit, 2-Bismarck du Plessis, 1-Tendai Mtawarira.

Replacements: 16-Chiliboy Ralepelle, 17-Deon Carstens, 18-Andries Bekker, 19-Danie Rossouw, 20-Heinrich Brussow, 21-Jaque Fourie, 22-Morne Steyn.
