The New Zealand golfer Brad Iles has posted a 7-under-par 65 to lead after the first round of the Nationwide Tour's Players Cup in Bridgeport, West Virginia.

Iles holds a one-stroke margin over Canada's Brad Fritsch and the 25-year-old says after a couple of top 10 finishes he's beginnng to show the benefit of advice from his coach and several players.

He says they told him he had the shots and the talent but wasn't aggressive enough and now he's more confident and prepared to for birdires rather than hope for a par.

Two weeks ago Isles came from the middle of the pack with a final-round 63 to force a playoff with Zach Johnson at the Knoxille Open before losing on the second extra hole.

But Eddy Lee's well back with a four over 74 after the first round of the PGA Tour Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut .where the American Kenny Perry tied the course record with a 61 to take a two shot lead,.
