Springboks to appeal Botha ban

7:32 am on 1 July 2009

The Springboks are to appeal the two-week ban lock Bakkies Botha received for a dangerous charge on Adam Jones in the second rugby Test against the British & Irish Lions on the weekend.

Botha's second-half charge left the Welsh prop with a dislocated shoulder that needed corrective surgery and ruled him out of this weekend's third and final Test at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

Springbok assistant coach Dick Muir says the South African coaching staff saw nothing untoward in Botha's charge.

South Africa won't be appealing the eight-week ban flanker Schalk Burger received for eye gouging Lions winger Luke Fitzgerald.
