Nathan Fien has left the Warriors for another National Rugby League club, St George Illawarra.
Fien requested and was granted a release from the last four months of his contract by the Warriors late yesterday.
With June 30 the last day an NRL club can register a player for this year, the Dragons moved swiftly to snare the 29-year-old.
The Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah says his request was looked upon favourably, allowing him to leave immediately.
Scurrah says given that Fien asked for a release and that he hasn't been playing for the Warriors in recent weeks, it was only reasonable to allow him to take up the offer.
Fien played 105 NRL games for the Warriors in almost five years in Auckland and was part of the Kiwis' World Cup victory last year.
Fien says with the offer coming from the Dragons he had to make a decision by the deadline of the 30th of June, but he's sad to leave the club.
