The athletics legend Michael Johnson and the 1992 US Olympic men's basketball "Dream Team" are among the 2009 inductees into the US Olympic Hall of Fame.

They'll be enshrined at ceremonies on August 12 in Chicago, the US candidate city to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee will announce the host city on October 2.

The eight-time world champion Johnson became the only man in Olympic history to win gold in the 200 and 400 metres when he achieved the double in 1996 at Atlanta, then defended his 400 crown at Sydney in 2000.

Michael Jordan led the Olympic "Dream Team" to an overwhelming performance at the 1992 Barcelona Games, outscoring opponents by an average of 44 points.

Other NBA stars in that US lineup included Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley and Larry Bird,.
