German veteran topples fourth seed

The oldest player in the mens draw at Wimbledon has reached the semi-finals for the first time.

The 31 year old German Tommy Haas, whose career had been blighted by injury, outclassed a tentative Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals, winning in four sets in the biggest shock of the men's tournament so far.

But the 24th seed has a mountain to climb now as his semi-final opponent will be Roger Federer who majestically despatched the big serving Croatian Ivo Karlovic in straight sets to reach his 21st consecutive grand slam semi-final.

The British third seed Andy Murray beat the Spanish wild card Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5 6-3 6-2 in just an hour and 41 minutes to reach his first Wimbledon semi-final.
