Jones joins Taipans

The Tall Blacks guard Phil Jones has signed to play for the Cairns Taipans in the next Australian National Basketball League season.

Jones was released from the New Zealand Breakers last month.

In 29 regular season matches for the Breakers last season, Jones averaged 14.7 points per game off the bench, as well as 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists and won the NBL's Best Sixth Man award.

The 35-year old New Zealand Tall Blacks Olympian takes a wealth of experience to the Taipans having also having previously played professionally in Finland, Greece and Italy.

He played in the Breakers' debut season before heading back to Europe.

Jones is expected to arrive in Cairns on July 18 to start pre-season training.
