New Zealand Cricket is confident spinner Jeetan Patel will be available for selection for next month's tour to Sri Lanka.

Patel was this week released by his English county side Warwickshire after suffering a minor knee injury, and will return to New Zealand next week.

The Black Caps team physio Kate Stalker's assessed Patel in England and manager Dave Currie says he's confident the injury isn't serious.

Currie says Patel just needs a couple of weeks to recuperate after suffering the sprain to the medial collateral ligament of his right knee, and will will resume training after that.
