Michael Owen has joined the English football champions Manchester United on a two-year contract.
The injury-prone former England striker, who's 29, was a free agent after his Newcastle contract expired at the end of last month.
He underwent a medical at a Manchester hospital on Friday before returning to United's Carrington training ground to complete the shock deal.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says signing Owen is not a gamble, calling him "a world class forward with a proven goalscoring record at the highest level and that has never been in question."
