Vixens thrash Pulse and Steel beat Swifts

7:50 am on 5 July 2009

The Melbourne Vixen have thrashed the Central Pulse 80-39 in Melbourne in a ruthless effort to boost their goal percentage and prospects of a home semi-final in netball's trans-Tasman championship.

The Vixens had to win by at least 28 to retain a chance of finishing with a better percentage margin than the leaders, the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic.

The Magic were tied with Vixens on 22 points, and their chances of a home major semi-final now rest on beating the third-placed Thunderbirds in Adelaide on Sunday afternoon and lifting their goal percentage back above the Vixens'.

Meanwhile the Southern Steel's 55-48 win over the New South Wales Swifts in Invercargill moves them two points clear of the Queensland Firebirds.

They're also 11 goals ahead but won't know if that's enough to get them a trip to Adelaide for the minor sem-final until the FIrebirds-West Coast Fever match in Perth on Monday night.
