England team for first Ashes Test

England's selectors have named their 13-man team for the first Test of the five-match Ashes series against Australia, which starts in Cardiff on Thursday.

There's no place for Stephen Harmison, who's been replaced by fellow Durham quick Graham Onions, who took 10 wickets in England's 2-nil home series triumph over the West Indies in his debut Test campaign.

The injury-prone all-rounder Andrew Flintoff returns to the squad following a knee injury and his recall means there is no place for Tim Bresnan, his stand-in earlier in the season.

Ian Bell will act as cover batsman for the first Test while the left-arm spinner Monty Panesar is back in favour after missing the series against the West Indies

England: Andrew Strauss (capt), Alastair Cook, Ravi Bopara, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Matt Prior, Andrew Flintoff, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Monty Panesar, Ian Bell, Graham Onions.
