Steel stay up to watch their fate on TV

8:34 am on 7 July 2009

The Southern Steel netballers are relieved but tired this morning after staying up late after practice to watch their trans-Tasman championship semi-final fate decided in their favour on goal difference in Perth.

The Steel join the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in the semi-finals after Queensland beat West Coast Fever 54-52 last night - but they needed a 10-point margin to knock out the Steel.

Steel coach Robyn Broughton says staying up to see the late night result was worth it but it was a long wait with the see-sawing result testing the nerves.

So in the semi-finals, the Melbourne Vixens host the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic on Sunday, and the Adelaide Thunderbirds will be at home to the Southern Steel on Monday.
