The first year New Zealand golf pro James Gill has missed out on a place in the field for next week's British Open at Turnberry in Scotland.

Gill was tied for second after an opening round of 69 in his final qualifying event at the Gailes Links near Glasgow, but he blew out to a second round of 76, finishing six strokes outside the qualifying score.

There will still be five New Zealanders teeing off at the Open next Thursday night.
