An Italian rider has surprisingly taken the yellow jersey on the Tour de France.

Rinaldo Nocentini now leads the famous cycle race after finishing fourth on the first mountain stage, while a Frenchman, Brice Feillu, won the latest stage to Andorra, the first of three days in the Pyrenees mountains.

Nocentini took the yellow jersey from Swiss Fabian Cancellara and heads Contador by six seconds.

Armstrong is now third, two seconds behind his Astana team-mate and rival, while the early leader Cancellara has plummeted down the overall standings to 39th after struggling to keep pace with the chasing peloton.

New Zealand's Hayden Roulston is 131st overall and Julian Dean 136th.
