Aitken hoping Wilkins will make herself available

The Silver Ferns coach Ruth Aitken is trying to shore up her attacking circle, encouraging Southern Steel shooter Donna Wilkins to return to international play.

Incumbents Irene van Dyke and Maria Tutaia are certainties but with Southern Steel's Daneka Wipiiti unavailable through pregnancy, Aitken has asked Wilkins to make herself available despite being off the international scene for a couple of years.

Wilkins didn't play in the trans Tasman competition last year as she had a baby but returned this year and has been in good form, with Aitken admitting the attacking circle is her biggest area of concern.

She says travelling time's a big factor for mothers though and she won't be re-visiting the issue until after the tran-Tasman champiinship playoffs.

On Sunday the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic are hosted by the Melbourne Vixens in the opening playoff game of the trans Tasman competition, with winner advancing to the finals.

The loser will then play the winner of the Southern Steel - Adelaide match in Adelaide on Monday night.
