The New Zealand triathlete Andrea Hewitt has continued her fantastic run of results in the ITU World Championship Series with a bronze medal in the latest race in Kitzbuhel, Austria.

And in a career breakthrough performance Kate McIlroy finished inside the top ten for the first time in her career, coming home in 8th place while Nicky Samuels was 18th and Debbie Tanner 24th.

The result will strenghten Hewitt's overall ranking which was third going into the event.

Emma Moffatt of Australia won from Nicola Spirig of Switzerland.

Meanwhile McIlroy's career isn't even a year old yet and she says 8th is just incredible and totally ahead of schedule. She didn't think she would get in a World Championship race this year to be honest and when she did she thought it would be a good experience. She was hoping for a good swim, she had that today but to finish top ten is a massive added bonus.

The World Championship Series now moves to Hamburg in two weeks time.
