Campbell first away at Turnberry

Michael Campbell has been drawn in the first group at the British Open golf championship starting on Thursday at Turnberry on the west coast of Scotland.

One of four New Zealanders in the field, Campbell tees off at 6.30 local time in company with the English and American veterans Paul Broadhurst and Mark Calcavecchia.

Mark Brown is away just before 9am and David Smail and Josh Geary are in the last few groups, teeing off around 3pm.

Irishman Padraig Harrington is bidding to become the first player to win a hattrick of Opens since the Australian Peter Thomson achived the feat in 1956.
