6:44 am on 16 July 2009

The weather forecast is encouraging for all four days of the Open golf championship, starting tonight at Turnberry on Scotland's west coast.

They're predicting sunshine and showers for the first two days, and drier for the weekend, though Saturday and Sunday could be breezier.

Michael Campbell, Englishman Paul Broadhurst and the 1989 champion Mark Calcavecchia are in the first group to tee off at 5.30 this afternoon NZ time.
