NZ women start water polo world champs with a win

The New Zealand women's water polo team has beaten South Africa 12-5 in their opening match at the World Championships in Rome.

New Zealand top their pool after Australia and Canada drew 6-all in the other game.

New Zealand began slowly with South Africa taking a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. In fact it wasnt till late in the 2nd quarter that the kiwi machine got into action with an Emily Cox goal and three consecutive Kelly Mason goals.

Jaz Myles netted 2 goals for New Zealand while Casie Bowry potted one on her debut.

The NZ Womens next match is against Canada.
