Armstrong prepared to support teammate Contador

4:27 pm on 21 July 2009

Lance Armstrong has declared he'll be supporting his team-mate Alberto Contador for the rest of the Tour de France, giving up on his dream to win an eighth title.

The 37-year-old American says he's perfectly happy to play second fiddle to the Spaniard, rating him "the best" after his dominant win on the first alpine stage two days ago.

The tour resumes tonight after its second rest day with Contador, the 2007 champion leading Armstrong overall by one minute 37 seconds.
