Three wins from three starts have seen Team New Zealand to a comfortable overall lead after the first day's racing at the Region of Sardinia Trophy, the third regatta in this this year's MedCup circuit.
The wins also double Team New Zealand's overall lead as they eased away from the current champions Quantum Racing to lead around the first windward mark going on to win from Sweden's Artemis and Argentina's Matador.
The second race saw a repeat performance from the New Zealand afterguard with Artemis and Matador second and third again.
But the third was much closer as they got past Russian Synergy yacht with a better gybe on the closing stages of the final run.
Tactician Ray Davies says Team New Zealand started really well in each race but the third was a real nail-biter with Synergy finishing half a boat length back. The Spanish yacht Bribon was third.
