The former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson will make an unlikely return to English club football as director of football at fourth division Notts County, England's oldest Football League club.

Eriksson was England manager between 2001 and 2006, the highlight of which was reaching the quarter-finals of two World Cups and one European Championship.

Notts County, haven't been in the top flight of English football since 1992, their one major title being the FA Cup in 1894.

He retuns to English club football after a season-long stint with Manchester City which ended last year and a brief sint as coach of Mexico which ended in April when he was sacked after a 3-1 loss to Honduras in a World Cup qualifier.
