Weather threatening to play big role in third Ashes Test

5:13 am on 30 July 2009

Bad weather is threatening to put a major dampener on Australia's prospects in this week's third Ashes Test starting tonight at Edgbaston.

Australia are trying to fight their way back in the five-Test series after losing last week's Lord's Test by 115 runs to trail 1-0.

The weather forecast in Birmingham for the day before the clash is for heavy showers with a slight chance of showers on the opening day.

The bureau is predicting heavy showers on the second day and there is a 40 per cent and 30 per cent chance of rain on the final two days respectively.

Edgbaston ground staff have already been working overtime to dry up the soggy outfield following the wet weather of the past fortnight.
