Cameron says swim suits overshadow world champs

10:31 am on 29 July 2009

The New Zealand swim team head coach Jan Cameron says there is no doubt the swim suit controversy has overshadowed the World Championships in Rome.

15 world records have fallen in just 3 days of competition mainly due to the high-tech swim suits that give a swimmer more boyancy.... however the world governing body is set to introduce restrictions on their use.

Cameron feels they have been a major distraction for everyone this week, with many athletes having them split just before events.

Cameron feels the suits were partly to blame for Moss Burmester's performance today when he failed to make the final of the 200 butterfly, the event he finished 4th in at last year's Olympics.

She feels 2009 will be remembered for the suits....

The world governing body is expected to confirm the swim suit requirements within the next couple of days.
