Ford has confirmed it is to stay in the World Rally Championship for the next two years.

The announcement came on the eve of Rally Finland.

The team will continue to be run in partnership with the British based M Sport organisation and retain the current driver line up of Mikko Hirvonen and Jari Matti Latvala.

The team will also still be backed by BP and Abu Dhabi and run the Focus RS World Rally Car up to 2010 but then the following year use the all new Ford Fiesta S2000, fitted with a 1600cc turbo charged engine.

The BP Ford Abu Dhabi team will be looking to extend their hat trick of rally wins, this week end, when their all Finnish driver line up competes in their home rally.

Mikko Hirvonen heads the drivers' championship by one point from World Champion Sebastien Loeb going into the ninth round of the 12 rally championship.
