Last NZers beaten at Badminton Open

Local representation at the New Zealand Badminton Open on the North Shore has finished at the quraterfinals stage with the two remaining men's and women's doubles teams defeated in straight games.

The unheralded Wellington duo of Chris Lee and Jian Dee Chew lost to the second seeds of Indonesia in the men's doubles, while the women's doubles team of Michelle KY Chan and Rachel Hindley were beaten by an Indian combination.

Meanwhile top men's seed and current world No10 Yan Kit Chan of Hong Kong showed his class by easily despatching French eighth seed Mathieu Lo Ying Ping and will face unseeded Japanese player, Kazushi Yamada who had a 53 minute win over seventh seed Anand Pawar of India in three games.

The big upset of the day was women's top seed Pui Yin Yip of Hong Kong losing to fifth seed Eriko Hirose of Japan.
