Taranaki have beaten Tasman 21-9 in Blenheim in the opening match of the Air New Zealand Cup rugby competition.
Tasman led 9-3 at half time, but a superb Taranaki defensive effort in the second half denied the homeside any scoring opportunities.
Taranaki also stepped up the offence in the second half with second five-eighth Jayden Hayward and wing Shayne Austin scoring tries.
