The Australian tennis player Samantha Stosur employed a huge serve, hard forehand and deft backhand slice to upset Wimbledon champion and top seed Serena Williams in the quarter-finals of the Stanford Classic in California.
Stosur will now play 8th seed Marion Bartoli of France who beat 4th seed Jelena Jankovic of Sebia.
2nd seed Venus Williams beat Maria Sharapova and will meet 3rd seed Elena Dementieva in the semi-finals after the Russian beat Slovak Daniela Hantuchova.
