Massa heads for home

6:16 am on 4 August 2009

The Ferrari formula one driver Felipe Massa left Hungary last night for his home in Brazil, 10 days after a near fatal accident during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Massa says he doesn't recall anything of the freak accident which left him with a fractured skull, but the doctors who've been treating expect him to make a full recovery.

Last year's world championship runner-up says he's keen to return to formula one as soon as possible. In the meantime the seven times world champion Michael Schumacher is set to replace Massa while he completes his recovery.
