Injured F1 racer Massa back in Brazil

10:33 am on 4 August 2009

Formula One driver Felipe Massa is back in his native Brazil, flying in from Hungary where he had surgery for serious head injuries.

The 28-year-old landed in Sao Paulo on a private jet, accompanied by wife Rafaela and his doctor, and was then flown by helicopter to the city's Albert Einstein Hospital.

He was struck by a suspension spring which had worked its way off Rubens Barrichello's

Brawn GP car, crashing his Ferrari into a tire barrier during a qualifying lap in Budapest on June 25.

Massa says he woke up in hospital two days later and remembers nothing of the accident.

He says he's feeling a lot better and he wants to recover as soon as possible to get back behind the wheel.
