One step forward, 2 steps back in the latest America's Cup saga.

Defending champions Ainghi announced overnight that they had chosen the United Arab Emirates as the venue for February's head-to-head showdown, but challengers BMW-Oracle aren't happy about it.

The Swiss team says the UAE port of Ras al-Khaimah offers perfect weather and great sailing conditions for a match in February.

Alinghi have the right to choose the venue as the defending champions.

However BMW-Oracle are unhappy the venue was chosen without their mutual consent and say they're reviewing their options.

The two sides have been locked in a legal dispute for the last two years over the terms of the event.

The two sides have been ordered to appear in a New York court next week for a hearing on race guidelines.

Alinghi won the America's Cup in 2003 and successfully defended the title four years later in Valencia, Spain.
