Northland beat Taranaki

Northland have beaten Taranaki 29-16 in their Air New Zealand Cup rugby match in Albany.

Northland first five-eighths Lachie Munro produced the game-breaking try and landed a conversion and five penalty goals to help his side to what turned out to be a convincing two tries to one victory.

The transferred game, as a result of stadium work in Whangarei, had been moving along at a fair pace all game with Taranaki looking the more likely side to produce the win, but Munro's chip and chase try in the 55th minute broke the game open.

Hurricanes flanker Scott Waldrom also marked his return to action when coming off the bench after 46 minutes - but marred his return when sin-binned for a high tackle on Rene Ranger in the 64th minute.
