Stalemate between Trescothick and selectors

6:26 am on 13 August 2009

The retired England opener Marcus Trescothick and national cricket selectors are involved in a stalemate regarding his possible call-up for next week's Ashes decider at The Oval.

Trescothick kept open the option for a return for his first Test in three years following the battles with depression that prematurely ended his international career.

He says none has spoken to him and if he was asked he would listen but he doesn't know how he would respond.

But national selector Geoff Miller is lukewarm about the prospect of calling up Trescothick, despite his strong county form and fine record at The Oval as England try to patch up their weak middle order.
