The National Rugby League's thrilling finals race looks set to be ambushed by the drama surrounding the Melbourne Storm superstar Greg Inglis after a Melbourne court yesterday adjourned his assault case for another two weeks.

Inglis' NRL future remains in limbo after a meeting of the Storm board confirmed he would remain stood down indefinitely from all club duties, although the NRL says he could return to training as early as next week.

The Australian test centre is charged with assaulting his girlfriend last Sunday, and he's been ordered to stay away from her.

Close friends says Inglis's mental state is fragile.
