Ref blunder reignites goalline technology debate

6:26 am on 18 August 2009

England's refereeing boss has called for goal-line technology to be introduced following the first major controversy of the football season, when Crystal Palace failed to have a legal goal awarded against Bristol City.

Keith Hackett also apologised to Crystal Palace after referee Rob Shoebridge's blunder, awarding a goal-kick after a shot the ball hit the back of the net and come straight back out.

Hackett says Shoebridge won't officiate at another game for at least two weeks.
