The former Harlequins director of rugby Dean Richards has beened from all coaching for three years by an independent European Rugby Cup disciplinary committee.

Richards resigned last week in the fall-out from the incident that saw the Quins back Tom Williams caught using fake blood in a European Cup quarter-final to create the appearance of a cut so a substitute could be used.

Williams was banned last month for 12 months while an initial ERC hearing cleared the former England No 8 Richards, the club doctor Wendy Chapman and physiotherapist Steph Brennan.

But the ERC challenged the verdicts for the three officials while Williams appealed against his ban, which has been reduced to four months.

Brennan was banned from European competition for two years, but Chapman remains in the clear.

Harlequins' fine was also increased from $525,000 to $630,000

It'sstill to be announced whether the club will remain in this season's European Cup competition.
