Waikato player suspended

Waikato's Jordan Smiler, has been suspended for a week after being cited for a dangerous tackle in the Canterbury centre Tim Bateman in last weekend's provincial rugby championship match at Christchurch.

The NZRU's judiciary officer Peter Hobbs said Smiler's tackle was dangerous because it was high, late and without proper use of his arms.

But it was also considered reckless rather than intentional.
