Motor racing driver Sebastian Vettel has extended his contract with Red Bull Racing to 2012.

The 22-year-old German, lying third in this year's world Formula One championship, only joined the team this year from sister outfit Toro Rosso.

He and his Red Bull teammate Mark Webber are chasing the drivers crown in a three-way scrap with leader Jenson Button of Brawn GP.

Vettel has been supported by Red Bull's young drivers program since the age of 12.

He is the youngest winner in F1 history, having taken a shock triumph for Toro Rosso in last year's rain-hit Italian Grand Prix.

Vettel entered F1 as a test driver for BMW Sauber and competed in one race for the team, as a stand-in for Robert Kubica at the 2007 United States Grand Prix.

He then joined the Toro Rosso outfit in August that year and remained with them until the end of last season.
