Wellington sneak home against Auckland

The Wellington rugby side has held onto the Ranfurly Shield after a hard fought 16-15 victory over Auckland at Westpac Stadium.

Wellington controlled the game in the first half and were up by 10 points early in the second half before Auckland came back with two tries and nearly took the game at the death.

Despite playing the last 10 minutes in their own half, the Wellington captain Jacob Ellison was delighted with his side's discipline that didn't result in any penalties.

In the other Air New Zealand Cup matches on Saturday, Bay of Plenty beat Waikato 29-16 and Canterbury beat Tasman 25-21.
