Ice Blacks beat Australia to claim series

The New Zealand ice hockey team's beaten Australla for the first time after winning the second match at the Winter Games in Dunedin's Ice Stadium then going on to win the penalty shoot-out to take out the series.

Australia won the first Test 8-2 but the underdog Ice Blacks took the second 5-4 forcing the penalty shoot-out.

Chris Eaden and Brett Speirs slotted their goals and goalie Zac Nothling outplayed Australia's two attacking penalty shooters and the 2000-strong crowd erupted.

Captain Cory Down, who's played his last game for the national side, says it's great that the Ice Blacks have shown they can play at Divisional 2 Level.

Braden Lee, Stacey Rout, Adam Soffer, Chris Eaden and Paris Heyd scored for New Zealand.
