The late Rugby World Cup-winning prop John Drake has a trophy named after him.

Auckland and Bay of Plenty will play for the inaugural John Drake Boot when the two teams meet at Eden Park on Sunday afternoon.

The former All Black and television commentator, who passed away in December at the age of 49, played for Auckland and latterly lived in Mt Maunganui with his family.

The trophy's a boot electroplated in silver.
