Ruth Aitken blames poor defensive effort

The New Zealand netball coach Ruth Aitken is blaming a poor defensive effort for the side's four goal loss to a World Seven in Wellington.

The first of a three-Test series saw the Silver Ferns beaten 48-44 with 38 of the World Seven's goals coming from the Northern Mystics shooter Catherine Latu.

By rights the world side made up of players from Australia, England, Jamaica and Samoa should have struggled to gel, but it was the Silver Ferns who sometimes looked as if they'd not played together before.

A high turnover rate proved particular costly for the New Zealanders and Aitken is demanding a much more team -oriented approach come the second Test in Rotorua.
