Canterbury have lifted the Ranfurly Shield off Wellington following a 36-14 victory at Westpac Stadium.
The challengers dominated from the opening whistle and led 26-0 at half-time.
Wellington were never allowed to get into the game and were pressured into far too many mistakes to have any realistic chance of holding onto the Shield.
Canterbury scored three tries and were up 36-0 before the home side scored two late tries to avoid total embarrassment.
Canterbury's first Ranfurly Shield defence will be against Otago in a fortnight.
