New Zealand Rugby League is refusing to comment following the news that Kiwis international Setaimata Sa has been charged with assault after an alleged alcohol-fuelled incident in Sydney last night.

He was detained by police after he was refused entry to the hotel for being too drunk and allegedly assaulted a police officer with a gate.

New Zealand Rugby League general manager Peter Cordtz says they won't be making any comment at this stage because the Sydney Roosters have launched an investigation into the matter.

The episode is just the latest in a horror season for the bottom-placed Roosters, who have already been fined $50,000 for the number of alcohol-related incidents involving the club this year.

Sa himself was ordered to complete 250 hours of community service in February after he fractured a man's skull during a brawl last year.

He will appear in court next month on charges of assault, resisting arrest, malicious damage and failing to leave licensed premises.
