Tall Ferns want world champs qualifying changed

6:48 pm on 2 September 2009

The New Zealand women's basketball team must win tonight's Oceanic Championship test against Australia by an astounding 51 points to qualify for the 2010 world champs in the Czech Republic.

The Tall Ferns went down to Australia 98-48 in Porirua on Monday, and as the qualifying system currently works, a trans-tasman series win is the only way New Zealand can reach the world championships.

Coach Shawn Dennis says there needs to be a revision of the qualifying system, because it causes many world-class sides to miss out on a place in the tournament.
