An improvement needed for NZ cricketers

6:47 pm on 2 September 2009

All eyes will be on fast bowler Shane Bond in his likely return to the New Zealand cricket team for tonight's Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Bond has been in the international widerness for 2 years following his decision to play in the rebel ICL, but he's a frontrunner to be one of a number of changes to the Black Caps lineup following their 2-nil test series loss.

Much will be expected of Brendan McCullum, who failed to fire with the bat in the test matches, but will be expected to give the tourists a boost opening the innings.

Sri Lanka won't have spin-ace Muttiah Muralitharan, who is injured, however pace bowler Lasith Malinga returns.

Thunderstorms are forecast for Colombo today.

New Zealand play 2 Twenty20 matches before a tri-series which also involves India.
