Richie McCaw could be playing at number eight for the All Blacks sooner rather than later.
The All Blacks had a day camp in Christchurch today with Otago blindside flanker Adam Thomson back in the fold and coach Graham Henry hailing him the standout player of the provincial competition.
All Blacks assistant coach Steve Hansen has talked of his wish to see Thomson at openside, the position McCaw's dominated for the past few years.
But McCaw's performance at number eight for Canterbury in the successful Ranfurly Shield challenge against Wellington, certainly didn't go unnoticed by Henry and his selectors.
Henry says they have an open mind on the possibility but it must be remember that McCaw was playing behind a very dominant forward pack which gave him greater licence to roam.
