The New Zealand Breakers basketball team has beaten the Adelaide 36ers 84-75 in their opening game at the official Australian National Basketball League pre-season tournament in Darwin.

With just 8 fit players to choose from, Coach Andrej Lemanis gave all who suited up valuable game time, including new import Awvee Storey as the Breakers led at every break, and at one stage by as many as 20 points.

The side was well led by Kirk Penney (24 points, 6 rebounds) and Rick Rickert with a double double to start the season (24 points and 11 rebounds).

The Breakers play again today and tomorrow before returning home on Sunday.
