Rally Australia back on the road

7:01 pm on 4 September 2009

Rally Australia has resumed after environmental activists forced the abandonment of a stage of the world championship round.

Police moved in after protesters began hurling rocks onto the road at the sixth stage in northern New South Wales

But the cars of Sebastien Loeb, Mikko Hirvonen and Dani Sordo were all pelted as they were escorted to stage seven.

After 13 stages Ford's Jari-Matti Latavala leads the Citroen of Sebastian Ogier by just over seven seconds with Ford's Mikko Hirvonen third and Dani Sordo fourth in a Citroen, six seconds ahead of the five-times world champion Loeb .

Hirvonen holds a three-point break over Citoren's Loeb in the world championship and neither driver can afford a non-points finish this weekend with three rallies remaining.
